Machines

The machines we looked at today were touchscreen racebook machines. The machine shows a dog or a horse race every 5 minutes and the player can bet a few different combinations on the outcome of the race.

The information is fed through an internet connection that originates in Austria. They collect races from around the world and shuffle them together and broadcast them to account holders. One of their sites is http://www.global-dogbet.com/.

The machines are pretty austere and the screenshots are pretty complicated. It would take a lot of well-written signage or an actual person being there to explain to these people how to use the machine to make a bet or two. I didn't like that at all.

Also, there are no other machines like these in Guadalajara. We would have "exclusive rights" on them, which means we would be the guinea pigs. I don't like that either. I have a hard time justifying the real estate when I know that we are going to have to put in a helluva lot of extra work to get the things to fly.

And finally, the killer, each machine costs 2,500 Euros. That's about $42,000 Mexican Pesos. And yes, that is what each machine costs. My opinion is that they could provide the machines for free, or for the cost of the installation, and then take a bit bigger cut of the handle.

Overall, if we are the first group to have these machines in the entire country of Mexico, I want them for free. It ain't my job to prove that these games will make money here. It's thier job.
